Deux mêmes choses ne peuvent être pareilles
2012, disposed bin
For the seventh consecutive year, in collaboration with the Domaine
national du Louvre et des Tuileries, FIAC will stage an outdoor
exhibition located in the renowned Tuileries Garden. The growing
interest for this annual event among galleries and artists - together
with the exceptional beauty of the site - has enabled us to bring
together each year some two dozen projects, including sculptures,
installations and ephemeral creations, deployed in the garden's
fountains, basins, lawns, alleys and groves.
gerlach en koop
is a collective of two Dutch artists. They live and work between The
Hague and Brussels. They are not confined to any medium, but use
whatever is effective, or alternatively its ineffectiveness to their
artistic benefit. ‘No two things can be the same’ is a sculpture that
involves two existing rubbish bins. One of the two bins is discarded
into the other. A minimal intervention. In the description following the
title of the piece, only the one that is thrown away is mentioned
implying that the other bin actually functions as a plinth to support
the first. It also means that the one on top can be considered art a
ready-made, while the other one is still part of the city’s public
furniture, that is to say: part of life.
